FAQs
1) What is community solar?
Community solar, also called "solar farms" or "solar gardens", is a new way to receive the
financial benefits of solar energy without installing expensive solar panels on your property.
Instead of putting solar on your roof, you can join a shared solar energy project in your area.
2) How does community solar work?
A solar array is built in your community and is connected to your electric utility grid. A portion of the system's solar panels are allocated to you. Electricity that's generated from your share of the project lowers your electric bill each month in the form of a solar credit. You save about 10% each month.
Global Utilities will match you with a project in your area.
3) Will I still be a customer of my utility?
Yes. Your utility will still provide service to you, but the bill you receive from them will be
lower due to the power generated from your portion of the solar farm.
4) I have a different energy services company (ESCO). Can I join?
Yes. Many people participate in both programs. Community solar credits can be applied to any charges on your electric bill, and it benefits the local economy.
5) Who is eligible for community solar?
Almost everyone is eligible - homeowners, renters, farmers, small businesses, houses of
worship, schools, you name it!
